Father Holtschneider presided at seven Commencement ceremonies that began on May 18 with the College of Law's graduation at the Civic Opera House. Six more ceremonies were held on June 14 and 15 at both the Civic Opera House and the Allstate Arena. More than 4,000 students graduated this year, including 369 from the College of Communication, which shared its first Commencement ceremony with the College of Computing and Digital Media (formerly CTI). Notable Commencement speakers included famed chef Charlie Trotter, who inspired Commerce graduates; astronaut and physician Mae Jemison, who addressed LA&S graduates; and theoretical physicist Shirley Ann Jackson, who spoke at the School for New Learning ceremony.
